As the 1880’s were ushered in there were two doctors in the community. Dr. Moab C. Caldwell, came in 1879. Dr. Caldwell, practiced for one year when he was joined by his son, who had recently completed medical training, and practiced for a short time Bloomfield, Iowa. Dr. J. W. Cladwell came to Steamboat Rock in 1880, and continued with his father for one year. His father then moved to Nebraska, and J. W. continued on his own being joined later by his son. J. W. Caldwell, practiced medicine until his death and he was succeeded by his son, J.Willard Caldwell.
In the period between 1880 and the turn of the century there were several other doctors who came and went.
In 1882, a Dr. Wood came and remained for two years. In 1892, Dr. F. A. Cogswell came, the duration of his stay is not known. Dr. William Whitney came in 1894, and in the same year moved to Eldora. In 1896, Dr. George Porter came and left the same year as well.
