In 1905 the town required everyone to put in a sidewalk or the town would put one in and bill the property owner for it. Will F. Asher hauled in sand to make his sidewalk, and was then called away to his store in Abbott. When he returned home the town had put in a sidewalk for him. He protested having to pay for it saying it was crooked, and he was going to put it in himself until he was called away.
Luiken & Cramer Implement, Cramer Brothers Hardware and Henry Johnson put in a string of cement walks in front of their buildings, about this time to replace the brick walks that had served for many years.
