AFTER THE WAR

THE HARDWARE

An early photo (1910 – 1920) of the inside of Cramer Hardware. Notice the variety of tinware displayed on the table. The gentleman on the left is Jacob Cramer. The young boy on the right is Harm Folkerts, son of George Folkerts.

John Cramer sold the Hardware Store to Louis A. Luiken in 1935 at which time it became known as Luiken Hardware.

L.A. Luiken’s sons, Anthony E. (Tony) Luiken, Harry C. Luiken, and Carl L. Luiken operated the hardware store in the early 1950’s and also purchased the Grocery building next door from Lewis G.Johnson and added a furniture store.

The hardware store was sold in 1973 to Mr. and Mrs. Jim McDonald, who operated the store as McDonald’s Hardware until 1984 when it was purchased by Stan and Shirley Caldwell and became Caldwell Hardware.
