The building that had been the home of Steamboat Rock’s Legion Post for many years was sold in 1969, to Roland Newby, and converted into an apartment building. The Legion in turn purchased the long empty former doctor’s office for their meeting place.
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the presentation of the Legion building to John and Harriet Burns after a fire destroyed their building. Harriet and John are in the center with a large group of supporters looking on as the ribbon is cut.
The auxiliary has always filled their obligation to the veterans and their families. Among their annual efforts are selling poppies and decorating veterans graves on memorial day. They have also raised money for many causes. One such cause was to have raised money for sick room equipment which they loan to people in the community who need it.
