100 YEARS OLD
CENTENNIAL 1855-1955

THE WAY WE WERE IN ’76

The City council in 1976 consisted of Jerry Kramer, Mayor, and council members, Joe Cervetti, Don Finger, Keith Richtsmeier, Jerry Higgason, and Harris Luiken.

On our nations 200th birthday, Steamboat Rock celebrated it’s 121st birthday.

At this point in the communities history the town was of course struggling along with many other small towns to remain viable in changing times.

Still the town was doing better than most and many businesses were still finding it profitable to operate here.

The following is a profile of the businesses operating in Steamboat Rock in 1976.

In 1964 the students of Steamboat Rock high school were taken by bus to Wellsburg to visit the school there. Students were advised that sharing with Wellsburg was being considered for the following year but the proposal was postponed. Now 12 years later it still had not happened.

Taking a walk around the town to see what changes had transpired in the twenty years since the centennial.
